Emily Fischer
Haptic Lab
Emily Fischer is an architect, kite-maker, and textile designer from Brooklyn, NY. She founded the interdisciplinary design studio Haptic Lab in 2009, an experimental practice that explores the sense of touch. Emily made her first quilted maps while studying architecture at the University of Michigan in 2002; inspired by her mother who had begun losing her eyesight from complications of glaucoma, these early projects were meant to be used as wayfinding tools for the visually impaired.
